Calzino filters

Self-cleaning backpulse filtration with filter cloths and filter aid.

The Calzino filter is a fully automatic backpulse filter developed for filtration with filter aid and filter cloths, enablingself-cleaningoperation.

The elements have filter cloths that determine filtration properties. Particles collect on the cloth during filtration; a liquid or air backpulse removes the filter cake.

Its high efficiency, reliability, performance, ease of use and low maintenance and handling requirements have led to use across many industries.

Calzino filters are used in chemicals, food and water filtration. Typical applications include sugar processes, cheese brine, process water in galvanic/electrolytic processes and precious metal recovery.

How the Calzino filter works

How the Calzino filter works

The Calzino filter is a fully automatic backpulse filter developed for self-cleaning filtration with filter aid and filter cloths.

Filter cloths, optionally precoated with filter aid, determine filtration properties. Particles collect on the cloth; a liquid or air backpulse releases the filter cake.

The filter cake can be discharged in wet or dry form, depending on production requirements. Wet cake can be pumped away; dry cake is collected in a container via a butterfly valve.

Filtration benefits

Filter cloth

Filtration properties depend on the cloth selected for the application and possible use of filter aid.

Filter aid

Filter aids such as perlite, diatomaceous earth and bleaching earth can improve filtration accuracy and capacity.

High flow rate

Many long filter elements with a large cross-section provide a large filtration area for high flow rates.

Low wear: no moving parts

Air or liquid backpulsing blows cake off the elements. There is no mechanical cleaning and therefore no significant wear.

Easy to clean thoroughly

Thorough cleaning is particularly important for food applications.

With no dead spaces and smoothly finished edges, no cake remains after discharge.

Filter cake discharge options
  • Wet discharge

In water filtration, water backpulses the cake off the elements and carries it away.

  • Dry discharge

To minimise filter waste, the cake can be discharged as dry as possible. After emptying the filter, air dries the cake; it falls as a solid through a butterfly valve in the cone into the container below.
